In-Home Support Services
Marion Senior Services is the local Lead Agency for both the State of Florida elder programs as well as locally sponsored programs in Marion County. Our Programs include Older American Act / OAA Programs (Federal), Community Care for the Elderly (State), Medicaid Home and Community based (State and Federal), Home Care for the Elderly (State), Alzheimer's Disease Initiative (State), Meals on Wheels (United Way and Federal), Community with a Heart (local donations) and Preferred Care (client private pay). Services can include:

Who is Eligible?
For most programs a person must be at least 60 years of age. Medicaid also requires meeting income and asset criteria. The Home Care and Alzheimer's programs require a caregiver in the home. Eligibility may also be based on need. An initial telephone intake and a comprehensive in-home assessment of the client's abilities and need for assistance determine both eligibility and priority for services.
How do I apply?
We receive requests for service both directly from the interested client and by referral from others in the community, such as relatives, pastors, social workers, or friends. If a referral is made, we then call the prospective client to discuss their needs. Call (352) 620-3501 to make a referral.
The Access Service Coordinator will conduct an initial telephone assessment, then when funding is available, the initial in-take will be given to a certified case manager to schedule an in-home visit and comprehensive assessment of the client's situation. The case manager and client together develop a Care Plan of needed services and resources. The case manager will arrange the services as well as maintain contact with the client for any further needs or changes in situation.
What is the cost?
Fees for service are determined at the time of the in-home assessment and will vary based on the client's ability to pay. Fees may range from no charge for Medicaid clients, to a small monthly co-pay for CCE clients, to full pay for private clients. Applicants should not be deterred by potential costs since we are usually able to place a client into a program that meets their income limits either through government or private donor subsidies.
Is there a waiting list?
Yes, there is usually a waiting list for most programs. Clients are ranked on our waiting list based on level of need not on the date they applied so highest need elders are served first. We move people off the waiting list continuously as funding opens up. Our Access Coordinator can also help with suggestions for other resources in the community when we cannot help immediately.
